Teens risking lives for fashion cancer council says 'We will never let them down'

They are the brave few who do everything they can for young fashion students everywhere. Now they're facing a nightmare: A new group of teen activists have formed a network of pressure groups calling for the fashion industry to do more to protect fashion students from online abuse.
"We call upon the major fashion brands to take urgent measures to protect fashion students from the harms caused by the Internet," said the groups' president, 21-year-old student Jusi Danko in an online manifesto published online on Monday. "Not only should they protect them, they should ensure that they cannot be victimized or harassed when they're not wearing something that gives them a boost."
The new group — called the Youth Rising for Fashion's Right to Choose — is a reaction to recent media coverage, including this article in the New York Times, regarding what many say are growing threats against young fashion students.
According to the Times, many women and men who are working in the fashion industry fear being labeled models, having their pictures spread on Facebook or Instagram, and getting threatened with sexual harassment online. In an op-ed in the Times on July 16, several fashion industry representatives, including those at the Fashion Institute of Technology and New York Fashion Week, wrote that they were taking proactive steps to address the online harassment. They also offered some advice on how to combat it.
Now the Youth Rising for Fashion is calling for action on these fronts. The group, which has members from 15 countries and includes the United States, Canada, France, and Poland, had its first meeting Monday morning at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Members have until 7 p.m. on Friday to submit an online petition, an online petition drive or a petition to an official body of the fashion industry, according to the group's blog.
The group wants to start an official lobbying group that would pressure the major fashion brands to do more to prevent and address online harassment of fashion students.
The groups' efforts will have a major impact, according to Danko, because of the "shocking impact" that fashion is having on their students, especially among the teen boys who are among the main targets of online harassment.
" fashion students are terrified, humiliated and afraid to be honest and authentic because the Internet]," Danko told Teen Vogue in a phone interview last month, "because it is just so bad."

Road rage man driven 4km on car bonnet before shooting
Tara Lavin was walking with her husband along the motorway in the village of Rangatok, near Dacca in north East Malaysia when they saw a man sitting out in his car, about 50 metres away. He then turned back.
Moments later, a passing car sped by, ramming the vehicle before he turned to fire a rifle at them from his car and shot it dead with a shotgun.
Ms Lavin said: "We saw the man start to look inside the car and I shouted at him to get out.
"When he looked up he saw I was shouting at him to get out, he stopped and got out. I ran into the car with our five-year-old baby.
"As I was driving he got out of the car and shot my car."
He then drove away from them, apparently shooting himself in the thigh.
"The next thing we know we're in a field. We started calling for help. A truck with eight people with us was on the highway. They told us all the details of what happened so we knew it was not a road rage incident.
"We got the help of the police and when they got there we were all together in front of the hospital, there were only two police vehicles and we all just stood there."
"It's shocking that he was driving a car which is not a regular car but a black Mercedes with tinted window, black hood, gold trim and the front end had the lights on.
"His car was empty except for the woman in it."
"If the car had been a normal car, it would have caught fire and it would have destroyed the car."
Mr Lavin added that this is the first time they had ever had a fatal road rage incident but that it is "difficult for him to move on" because it affects all of them.
