The two-week tour will be the highest Test of the All Blacks' career and a crucial one to establish what the new world champions are, after a disappointing series in South Africa in September.
While it's tough to look back and judge, the two week series of September is probably the toughest for the All Blacks to pull off, given the conditions, and the fact New Zealand is playing Wales at Eden Park in what the Waratahs believe is a crucial game for them to move up in the Test order.
For the Hurricanes' opponents, the tour will be a chance to establish their credentials as a nation, and to look for the team to challenge for a World Cup berth.
It's still early days and the Hurricanes and Waratahs will have to improve to have any hopes for the finals in June.
The next Test will be on the following weekend, in Melbourne, and will be the last chance for the Hurricanes to get to know the All Blacks before their tour commences on the first day of August.
New Zealand have now played 11 of the last 13 Tests against South Africa, losing the last time in South Africa on the day that their side were crowned the reigning world champions.
The two sides played 12 rounds in 2007, all in the last 12 months as both sides won three of the five games in those matches.

They also have a six-week lead in the series against the Crusaders, but they would still be favoured in South Africa if the series went one-sided, with New Zealand picking up a more convincing victory in the World Cup quarterfinal against France on the weekend of June 22.
Both sides have three Tests left and will have plenty of game time during the series so they will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the final days in October when, despite winning three of the series with South Africa, the Hurricanes were unable to match the intensity of the Wallabies at Eden Park.
But New Zealand know they need to step up if they are to make progress in Sydney - or even the final Test, or at the very least, get by without losing the series.
It all comes down to how much experience the teams gain out of this test and what they gain from these experiences.
The Wallabies, as always, are hungry for victory over the All Blacks in Sydney and, even though they are a better side than South Africa in the final Test in Australia, they have not won the series out of South Africa since 2003.
Even though the Wallabies had five times the amount of possession of the Wallabies in the series last year, the t| t|¬tё
